Halekauwila Place – Kakaako New Affordable Rental Project
Against the backdrop of Kakaako luxury high rises being developed there is a new affordable rental project which broke ground in December 2012. Halekauwila Place is an affordable rental project being developed by Stanford Carr under the name Halekauwila Partners LLC. Halekauwila Place will be located next to mother Walden Park and 690 Pohukaina being developed by Forrest City. The proposed transit station along Ward Avenue is also located nearby. The Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) put out an RFP of which Stanford Carr was selected. The approximate time of construction is 18 months which means a completion date in Spring/Summer of 2014. Some of the funding for the project came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through their Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program in addition to a construction loan provided by the HHFDC.
